 The UNEP Year Book 2013 is the 10th edition of the Year Book series. This series presents annual reviews of emerging environmental issues and policy-relevant developments. Rapid change in the Arctic resulting from climate change is threatening ecosystems and providing new development opportunities including easier access to oil, gas and minerals. The UNEP Year Book 2013 shows that changes in the Arctic will have consequences far beyond this fragile region and that they require an urgent international response.

The 2013 Martha T. Muse Prize for Science and Policy in Antarctica |
|
 Nominations open until 23 May 2013 The "Martha T. Muse Prize for Science and Policy in Antarctica" is a US$ 100,000 unrestricted award presented to an individual in the fields of Antarctic science or policy who has demonstrated potential for sustained and significant contributions that will enhance the understanding and/or preservation of Antarctica. The Prize is inspired by Martha T. Muse's passion for Antarctica and is intended to be a legacy of the International Polar Year 2007-2008.
The prize-winner can be from any country and work in any field of Antarctic science or policy. The goal is to provide recognition of the important work being done by the individual and to call attention to the significance of understanding Antarctica in a time of change. A website with further details, including the process of nomination, closing date and selection of the Prize recipients is available at www.museprize.org. The Prize is awarded by the Tinker Foundation and administered by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).

 The meeting is open to all interested in the Arctic, and will consist of a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of high-latitude environments. Previous Arctic Workshops have included presentations on arctic and antarctic climate, archeology, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, hydrology, glaciology, soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more.  Domenica 20 gennaio e domenica 27 gennaio 2013 sono andate in onda, alle ore 12:40, le puntate di Pianeta Mare Rete 4 registrate in Antartide, dallo staff Mediaset ospitato dal PNRA nel novembre scorso presso la Stazione Mario Zucchelli. La prima puntata "Oceano di Ghiaccio" ha come ospite in Italia, il prof. Carlo Alberto Ricci.  The conference will include talks by invited keynote speakers, oral presentations selected on the basis of submitted abstracts, poster presentations and short oral presentations of selected posters. A panel discussion will develop messages to be communicated to the Arctic Council Ministerial meeting that will take place in Sweden shortly after the Conference.
